York Fire Eater

Street performers are alive and well.  This guy said he just celebrated his three year anniversary of quitting his full-time job and working full-time as a street performer.

It was a rough crowd--nobody laughed.  But everyone stayed.

He had an interesting strategy of requesting larger-than-typical donations by saying he dreamed he got two 20-Pound notes from the crowd.  I was thinking I'd give each kid a Pound to put in his hat.  That prompted me to hand on a five Pound note and the other a pound.  So his story got me to triple my anticipated "gift."

He did juggling, fire eating and here's the finale.  He juggled knives, blindfolded while on this ladder.  The ladder is teetering about six inches from a set of five steps.

He's on Facebook.  Search for "York Fire Eater."  It paints a bit of a sad picture, though.  He writes about changes to the act, wanting to give up fire eating for his health (!) and needing a place to stay for short terms.  Good for him for following his dream, but that kind of thing comes with a price, clearly.
