Edinburgh Castle

My bad Palace karma didn't extend to Edinburgh Castle--we were able to get in (and it was sunny--bonus).

Helena's taken to wearing her coat on her head as a cape.

I don't think I've ever seen sculpted chain mail.  This statue was pretty amazing.

When, damnit, WHEN will I learn to stop leaning over near the kids when we shoot photos.  As if I don't look like enough of a dork with my giant windbreaker on...  *sigh*

Great views of the town from up there.

Crowded like mad, but it's large enough that people didn't crush the girls as they have at some sites.

I'm happy to report we had sun!  But it's cold up on top of that hill--note the fully zipped-up coat and mittens.

The sweet, small cemetery for pets of the castle's guards.

Olivia ran over to tell her sister to "be careful not to fall!"  My cute little safety/traffic cop.

As with so many attractions, this was the view the kids would have had of the 1 P.M. gun's firing.  So we elected to skip it and keep our ears peeled.  It was surpringly not very loud.

The aforementioned 1 P.M. gun.

The kids fooling around with the cardboard cutout of a family gunner.  Olivia looks pretty stern, doesn't she?
