Hats Aplenty

I never paid any attention to kids' activities at museums.

Now I pay attention all the time.

See, I'm a museum geek.  I love almost any form of museum.  I have a love/hate relationship with tour guides.  Most times, I love a good guided tour--you learn so much more about the exhibits.  But sometimes I just want to wander and soak it all in.  The best solution is to get a DVD series, like I did on the Louvre, and pre-learn about the artworks, then visit alone (or with kids, as it were).

Since the kids tend to poop out on museums and guided anything within an hour, we're doing things on our own, mostly.  Many museums (as I've mentioned) have sticker games, kids commentaries or something similar for distracting the kids while the adults can enjoy the space.  Since I'm essentially a single mom with two kids, ages 5 and 6, on this trip, I appreciate the kid-friendly stuff.

The girls are particularly fond of the dress-up opportunities available.  I even get in on the action sometimes.

Though a friend's recent family battle with head lice gives me pause, I take the chance and try on a hat or two.

Now where'd I put that ball gown?
