York Minster is amazing.
I tapped my fingers impatiently, waiting for the kids to finish their ice cream, but also wondering if I should waste the sunny day going inside. Since we had a week, I decided to postpone the visit in favor of inside pursuits. But when we went back, I went crazy with photos.
My amateur photos can't show the beauty of the sculptures and wood carvings.
I found the ancient grave markers lining the sides truly stirring. You look at these things are realize that these were people just like you--answering the day-to-day questions of life in such different ways. People just like me, yet in a time and culture so distant and foreign.
This one was amazingly ornate.
I love this couple.
I love how your life, back then and even now, is defined by your relationships--ain't it the truth?
When we went back for a second visit, there was a wedding party in here. Out of respect, I didn't shoot a photo of them. We were sitting outside, taking a break after our visit, when the wedding ended. I could not only hear, but feel the vibrations of the organ in the stone steps where we were sitting--25 feet from the Minster--as the Wedding Recessional was played. That was wonderful. I know that couple and their guests were just thrilled by the organ that day.
