Among York's many delights is the chance to walk along the city walls.
As a parent, trying to corral two young girls, I a particularly grateful for the stretches where they have installed protective fences at the back of the wall.
Here the girls are being archers, defending the town.
This lovely walk takes you from the train station to the center of town.
This building from the 1300's was used as a guard house. There used to be a chain that ran across the river from here, preventing boats from sneaking in and and avoiding the tolls. Now it's a private residence. How terrific to own this as your house, eh? But it's crawling with tourists, so then again, maybe not.
